For years, one Minnesota family dreamed of having a home to call their own — a place where their daughter, who uses a wheelchair, could move freely and comfortably. After being told they would likely never qualify for homeownership, they continued to rent, always keeping hope alive that one day things could change.
That day finally came.
Through the HUD Homeownership Program, this family was able to purchase their very first home — one that fits their needs and their dreams. Using the FHA 203(b) with escrow program, they’ll make important updates, including replacing the boiler and completing minor plumbing and electrical repairs. A wheelchair ramp is also being installed soon, ensuring safe and easy access for their daughter.
Their goal? To be fully moved in and celebrating Thanksgiving in their new home.
Even more inspiring, they achieved all this with very little out-of-pocket cost — utilizing HUD’s $100 Down Program alongside the Minnesota Housing Finance Program, which made homeownership both affordable and achievable.
This story is shared with permission from John Clay of Associated Realtors, who guided the family through the HUD home purchase process.
This success story is more than a closing — it’s a reminder of what’s possible when resources, programs, and teamwork come together.
At RAINE, we’re proud to play a role in helping families access these opportunities and create homes that support their lives and futures.
🎉 Congratulations to this incredible family on becoming homeowners! 🎉
We can’t wait to see you settle in, make memories, and enjoy your first Thanksgiving in your new home.
